borax: a mineral comprised of sodium, boron, oxygen and water that is mined directly from the ground. It is anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory and is the emulsifying binder used to turn hot oils, butters, waxes and waters into an incredibly silky and smooth cream.
natural additions
The final items that go in to my products fall in to this catch-all category. While there are barely trace amounts of them it is important to describe everything that goes in to my jars and on to your skin. It all matters.
sugars: I use three different kinds of sugar for my scrub: Turbinado, which is the raw, unrefined form of sugar with the largest crystals for a good long scrub. White and brown sugars are used as well in and melt first but give a smooth sheen to your skin.
vegetable glycerin: Derived from vegetable fats, this is a clear, slippery, moisturizing humectant. It is used in all of my creams, body sprays and scrubs to promote hydration and lock the moisture in.
dried citrus rind: I use a ton of citrus: lemons, oranges, tangerines, limes, grapefruit. I love citrus. I keep the rinds and dry them then grind them up and chuck 'em in soap and scrubs. Dried citrus rind is an amazing exfoliant.
